Stone Ground Grits

Makes: 4-6 servings

INGREDIENTS:

● 1 cup stone ground grits
● 4 cups water or ½ water/ ½ milk
● 4-6 tbsp butter
● Salt and pepper


DIRECTIONS:

Bring water to a boil and add salt. Vigorously stir in grits and continue to whisk as heat is reduced to low. Simmer for 40-50 mins or until thickened. Add in butter and more warm liquid if needed to loosen. Season with salt and pepper.
Can be done in slow cooker by combining all ingredients except butter and allowing to sit for a few minutes to skim off any solids that have surfaced. Cover and cook on high for 3 hours, stirring occasionally. Add butter.
