Sub-Zero Refrigerators and Freezers are built to last up to 20+ years. By maintaining your refrigerator with this easy 5-minute filter change, you will continue to keep your food fresh and your refrigerator happy for many years to come.
What is the air purification filter and what does it do?
Many fresh foods emit ethylene gas, a naturally-occurring compound that hastens food ripening and spoilage. Sub-Zero refrigerators come with an air purification system (based on technology developed by NASA) that scrubs the air of ethylene, mold, bacteria, and odors every 20 minutes. This keeps your food fresher, and lasting much longer. Change the filter once every 12 months to properly maintain and keep your food healthy and fresh.
How do I know when the air purification filter needs replaced?
Air purification filters are ready to be replaced whenever the indicator light begins to flash. A steady indicator light is normal. Note: there is no harm to the Sub-Zero unit if the air filter is not replaced or used.
Locate your Pure Air Filter Box in the back of your Sub-Zero Refrigerator. It may be necessary to remove a shelf if it is positioned in front of the access door. Once you have located this, lift the white access door to reveal the Air Purification Filter.
Grab the black cover and pull down to release the air purification cartridge. Remove by lifting up and out.
Once removed the cartridge can be disposed of at any recycling center that accepts florescent light bulbs or batteries.
Use Earth911 at www.earth911.com to find a location in your area.
Remove the new cartridge from the packaging and insert with the connector pointing downward. The Sub-Zero logo does not have to be facing out. The cartridge may be installed with the logo facing inside the unit. Once in position, close the black cover, then rotate the outside cover downward until it closes against the back wall.
Once the cartridge has been replaced, touch and hold PURE AIR on the control panel for five seconds to reset. The indicator will appear in the control panel display but not flash.
